Thinking the Unthinkable at AltProteins 25
AltProteins 25 prompted attendees to think the 'unthinkable' with sessions like Disruption - Changing the Narrative

This year’s AltProteins conference promised to be different, to be bold and to truly challenge attendees to ‘think the unthinkable’.

For the nearly 300 leaders across the emerging proteins ecosystem who joined us in Sydney yesterday from all corners of industry, government, academia and media, we’re proud to report we delivered on that promise.

Led by our “Sorcerer of Ideas” Nik Gowing, former BBC journalist and founder of Thinking the Unthinkable, attendees were provoked to ask big questions – and even play catch with our ‘catchbox’ roaming mic to add their voice to the conversation.

Following Nik’s scene setting ‘big picture’ provocation in the morning, they joined a whirlwind of sessions covering topics like navigating the investment landscape to scaling operations to translating R&D to commercial realities, and much, much more. More than 40 speakers delivered new insights, practical advice and collaborative and informative Q&As.

At the lunch break, attendees got a taste of the future and current landscape of alternative proteins products made with plant protein ingredients at our new “Tasting Hall”, featuring 40+ products spotlighting the innovation and versatility of Australian and New Zealand plant protein ingredient manufacturers.

The closing session “What Happens Now” reconvened attendees with five leaders from across the value chain, government and media on stage to address the now fired-up audiences’ answers to “What’s your unthinkable now?”. They also dug into hard questions from Nik, agreeing the event dialogue was “frank” and the need for greater collaboration has never been more apparent to position the sector as an answer to universal needs like establishing greater food security.

For those who joined us at AltProteins 25, we can’t wait to hear more about how the connections made and conversations had spur greater collaboration, ideation and action across the value chain in the months and years to come.

Thanks again to our lead sponsor, Investment NSW and the NSW Government, for making this year’s event possible.
