A bit about the job
The Operations Manager is the lynchpin that enables the systems, processes and projects that ensure the organisation’s effective delivery.
You will work closely with the Executive Director to empower a small expert team – including one direct report (Administration Officer), a third-party CFO, members of the board who comprise the Governance, Risk and Finance Committee, interdependent colleagues and other contracted service providers.
You will lead the critical organisational pillars of finance, risk, governance and compliance, including reporting and major projects including an enterprise digital transformation. This is a critical and senior position within our agile and pioneering social enterprise. As we are an organisation that also values work/life balance, with the right candidate we are happy to explore this being a 0.8 position (paid pro-rata).
A bit about you
You are a team player who knows what it takes to steer a scaling enterprise as it leaps from the start-up to scale up phase! To do all this, you’ll probably need these attributes:
- You relish operational excellence – you take pride in ensuring that all parts of the enterprise hum in unison. Whether it is finance, governance, risk, compliance or a major project you want to know everything about how it currently works – and you make it your mission to take it to the next level.
- You report to help…not hinder – you respect sound governance and know how important the right level of reporting is to help decision-makers take a view. You take on the cognitive load required to interpret and present information in ways that help decision-makers – instead of providing data dumps that are difficult to sift, sort and decypher.
- You are highly organised – you intuitively ‘get’ that scale-ups require everyone to pile in and this might mean juggling multiple pressing priorities. You thrive in this environment because you are organised and align your personal systems and processes with organisational ones. You have an eye for detail, contingent deliverables and project management is your second nature. You get anxious when you feel like you are not across everything.
- You’re entrepreneurial – you have industrious energy and are a natural problem solver. You can easily switch from the macro- to micro- view and manage to see how all the pieces of the puzzle fit together to create an elegant solution; whether you are driving an enterprise digital transformation or improving key operational pillars, your mindset is around how to make things work and better.
- You know that team work makes the dream work – while you might not be chanting the mantra to the team every day, you know that building strong relationships and partners are your key to achieving success and you have strong emotional intelligence and a sense of team wellbeing. You want the system to work but not at the expense of the people that comprise it.
- You’re curious – we work in an emerging, rapidly evolving field and need to be agile in all we do, and love to keep learning – which is great, because so do you!
- You’re motivated by our mission – our team is inspired because we know that we do our bit for our planet and its people and we want you to feel the same! Ideally you love working as a part of a small aspirational team, but are also able to work autonomously on projects.

Stop (or rather, don’t stop!) Research suggests that at this point up to 60% of those identifying as women or under-represented folks might have talked themselves out of applying because you don’t tick every single box. But we are committed to finding the right person to join our team and know that sometimes means you’ll excel in a number of areas, and need to develop in others. We’re all human after all (and we’re looking for exactly one of those!).
