IKEA brings plant-based meatballs to Australian stores

IKEA will be serving up a plant-based version of its iconic Swedish meatball in Australian stores beginning 6 October.

Made from yellow pea protein, oats, potatoes, onion and apple, the plant-based alternative aims to mimic conventional meat, “without compromising on the classic IKEA meatball experience,” said IKEA spokesperson Bijanka Zubonja. Shoppers can also purchase packages of frozen plant-based meatballs to serve at home.

The launch of the “plant ball” follows IKEA’s successful introduction of a plant-based hot dog to Australian stores earlier this year. As part of the launch, IKEA is giving 350 Australians the chance for a sneak peek taste of the “plant ball” before its arrival in stores. The ‘Sustainable Dining: A menu better for you and the planet’ event will be hosted in select IKEA Australia stores with limited tickets available for the three-course dining experience.
